Earn your next belt through the conversations you have

You've finished a lesson and passed its roleplay. What counts toward your next belt? Rapport Score brings together completed learning and measured performance across your recent conversations, with a consistency requirement for each level. You can see what you've completed and where to put your effort next.

If you're a coach, use those requirements to discuss a client's development alongside the goal you've agreed on. If you're working independently, they give you a way to plan your learning and practice as you move from White Belt through to Black Belt.

Meet three requirements to advance

Promotion brings together measured performance, completed learning, and consistent application. All three requirements must be met. That keeps advancement connected to both the work you put into practice and the communication demonstrated in your recorded conversations.

Performance across all seven dimensions

Each Rapport Dimension must meet the next belt's performance requirement when averaged across the number of recent completed conversations required for that belt. The dimensions are Responsiveness, Active Listening, Mirroring, Curiosity, Trust Building, Emotional Acknowledgment, and Engagement. Each is considered individually when progression is evaluated.

Use the dimension results to identify where your next effort belongs. You might be asking thoughtful questions while still finding it difficult to acknowledge a concern before answering it. That gives you a particular response to practice as you work toward meeting the requirements across the full set of dimensions.

Completed lessons and successful roleplay

Complete every lesson assigned to your current belt by watching the video and passing its associated roleplay. If your belt includes several lessons, the learning requirement includes each of them. Roleplay feedback helps you identify what needs attention before another attempt.

You can connect this learning to a conversation you expect to have. A client discussion, project review, or difficult request gives the practice a purpose beyond the assessment itself. Bring that purpose back into the work as you move through the lessons.

Consistency in real conversations

Advancement requires a consecutive run of qualifying completed conversations. Each conversation in that run must meet the required performance across all seven dimensions. There's also a minimum number of completed conversations required since the previous promotion, with consistency requirements increasing through the pathway.

This gives you a reason to keep applying the skills after a successful practice session. Use them in relevant conversations, review the results, and keep working on the parts that need attention. Progression is evaluated as subsequent conversations are measured.

Use your current results to plan the next step

Look at the requirement that still needs work. If a dimension falls below the required level, listen to the relevant conversation moments and choose a response to practice. Check your assigned lessons too, including the roleplay for each. Once the learning and performance requirements are met, continue applying the skills in the qualifying conversations needed for advancement.

Keep the task manageable. Choose a behavior to practice, use the available feedback, and carry it into a relevant conversation. If you're working with a coach, discuss how that task supports your own development goal. The belt requirements give the work structure while your goal gives it personal meaning.

Understand changes in your belt

Belts can move down when the required performance is no longer sustained. If that happens, review the recent conversations and the dimensions that need attention. Consider the situations involved, return to the relevant practice, and use the current requirements to plan your next attempts.

Your earlier learning is still part of what you bring to the work. A change in level gives you a reason to examine how you're applying it now. Your coach can help you make sense of the examples and choose where further support would be useful.

Make advancement part of the coaching conversation

For a coach or trainer, belt progress gives you a concrete subject for a development review. Discuss completed learning, the skill being practiced, and examples from recent conversations. Recognize the work your client has done and agree on what deserves attention next.

Use that discussion to keep the pathway relevant to the client. The value lies in being better prepared for the conversations that affect work, relationships, and everyday decisions. The next belt gives that continuing effort a milestone to work toward.
